The municipal centre of Askvoll is on the mainland and is a hub for bus, ferry and boat transport. It is home to the municipality & public administration and a number of the municipal services. Askvoll has a wide range of private shops and services, in addition to a hotel, vinmonopol (off-licence) and pharmacy. The small town also has a dentist, veterinarian and medical centre.
Askvoll Fjordhotell is located in the centre of the small town and can offer comfortable rooms and delicious meals. Askvoll Sjøbuer has a good range of food and drink right on the water & edge nearby Askvoll harbour. Further out on the old quay in what was the town centre before, you will find Askvoll Sjømat og Delikatesser. We recommend a visit here to buy high-quality, handmade and authentic food over the counter, or you can order catering.
Askvoll has a large harbour in the centre in addition to a guest harbour and campsite run by Askvoll Småbåtlag, with an idyllic location in Øyra. Øyra also has a climbing park, beach volleyball court and beach. The central harbour has mooring spaces for leisure boats along with toilets and showers etc. If you are planning a trip to the islands, the ferry quay is right next to the guest harbour.
There are well-marked paths and trails at walking distance from Askvoll centre taking you up to tops such as Blåfjellet and Fristadfjellet or over flatter ground in the countryside. You can also find great fishing lakes nearby; Fismavatnet, Askvatnet and Kyllaren. Askvika, Kyllaren and Leira are the most important areas of wetland in the region of Sogn og Fjordane, with observations of around 130 species of bird.
From the central harbour, you can follow a cultural trail describing the life and works of artist Anders Askevold (1834-1900). The walk takes around one and a half hours.
With a base in Askvoll centre, you have a wealth of opportunities for wonderful experiences either on foot, by cycle, by car, in a boat or kayak.
