- and the villages on the banks of the Førdefjord
Kvammen and the villages on the banks of the Førdefjord The banks of the Førdefjord are dotted with charming farming villages such as Flokenes, Gjelsvik, Kvammen and Rørvik. As you arrive at Flokeneset point, you can see how the fjord opens and runs in to the Stavfjord. With the steep mountain on one side and the fjord on the other, you have every opportunity for outdoor pursuits.
Hillwalks and fishing in lakes
There is a waymarked trail from Markavatnet lake to Nipebu, a cabin run by the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT), on the banks of Langevatnet lake. This area has fishing lakes where you may not find the biggest catch but, with some patience, are almost guaranteed some fish. You are permitted to fish in these mountain lakes without the need for a fishing permit.
A fishing pier with universal design has been erected for fishing in Øyravatnet lake. This lake also has a beach for swimming and a spacious lean-to with plenty of seating and facilities for barbecuing.
The Førdefjord is great for fishing in both shallow and deeper waters. You can go kayaking and boating amongst the archipelago. Kvammen boat club and community association have established a wonderful beach in Kvamsvika bay. There is plenty of parking here and facilities where you can launch a boat. The boat club has a small harbour where you can buy mooring for your boat or hire a
mooring space, both short and long term.
The area provides wonderful hillwalks, with Blegja at 1,305 metres above sea level as the highest peak in Ytre Sunnfjord. Start from Rørvika.
A natural place to meet is the local store in Kvammen with normal services, a small café and fuel pumps. The shop also provides a tourist information service. The area around the shop has a football pitch and beach volleyball court.
