In Askvoll, you can go island hopping around the charming archipelago by ferry, with your own boat or in a kayak. You can explore the wonderful fjord-side villages along the banks of the Dalsfjord, Stongfjord and Førdefjord. We recommend getting around by cycle and following the different cultural trails by foot.
Askvoll is the perfect destination for geologists and other stone or hillwalking enthusiasts. The area has clear traces of the Caledonian mountain range and those interested in geology can study the processes involved in the creation and collapse of mountain ranges. If, however, you are more
interested in hiking in the mountains, you have a world of choice here. There are hillwalks and treks that will take you up to breathtaking viewpoints over the ocean and mountains.
Askvoll has numerous nesting areas for seabirds that are worthy of protection, and Kyllaren and Askvika are among the most important areas of wetland for the migration routes for wading birds in Scandinavia. New species of bird are observed year after year.
Askvoll has a rich and exciting history with burial mounds and rock carvings found dating back to the Bronze Age. In Rivedal, you can visit the statue of Ingolf Arnarsson, the first Norse settler on Iceland. Many of the villages in this area have an art gallery or a village museum where you can learn about the area's history.
The fjord and ocean have always been and remain of great importance for the people who live here on the coast. Today, this is not least evident in the numerous small boat and guest boat harbours along the fjord. If you are visiting the area by boat, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to harbours, several of which are also close by a pub.
Several festivals and cultural events take place during the summer, attracting large crowds.
Welcome to a whole world of adventure in Askvoll!
