About
Two women are commemorated with statues on the island of Hillersøyna in Bulandet. One is Berte and the other is Hansine. The statues are created by Ingun Dahlin. In 1885, these two women helped save seven men who were shipwrecked on a rock. They were both in their twenties and, after some time, they were awarded the public medal for rescue services.
In 2007, they were honoured with a memorial located in Nordavindshågen on Hillersøyna island. Two female figures from the waist up stand on separate pedestals. Their arms in gold crossed in front of their chests, they stare out to sea.
