Blegja (1305 m) black marking
Blegja is the highest summit in Outer Sunnfjord. Parking for this trail is situated close to the information board for the municipality of Askvoll, sited 36 km from Askvoll driving towards Førde. The trail starts 100 m along the road walking back towards Askvoll. This trail is most suited to agile and experienced walkers, and takes approx. 5-6 hours at a moderate pace.
The first part of the trail is easy to follow and leads to a privately owned cabin, Nipebu. From this point, you will need to keep your eyes on the track as it leads you onto Rørviknipa – it may not always be easy to see which way to go. The trail, which is marked with cairns, then follows the foot of the mountain until you arrive at Nipevatnet lake. From this point, you can see the plateau on the top of Blegja. Carry on along the lakeside to the left, and then along the mountainside. You will then cross a small scree and later a ridge that brings you to yet another scree. From here, the trail continues along a new ridge leading to the pass between Rørviknipa and the Blegja plateau. An easy climb for the last few metres and you’re there! The cairn at the top of the mountain lies to the north of the plateau and offers breath-taking views of Alden, the Jostedal glacier and the seven mountains surrounding the city of Bergen.
