Skålefjellet – fantastic views at 767 m above sea level!
Skålefjellet lies immediately south-east of Stongfjorden and is the starting point for the most popular route. Walk past the football pitch and up the forest road heading south-east. Follow the T-marked route to Nipebu all the way up the Gjerdedalen valley. Heading uphill, some of the route is uneven and fairly steep through the coppice until you pass the treeline. Here you will come to one of the two rivers that flows from the area around the summit of Skålefjellet. The first river can be quite dry in fair weather, but there is always water flowing in the river further up. If you need a rest, take it by the second river, where there are good views westwards to the sea. Immediately above the second river, you turn off the waymarked trail and head up the pass on the left-hand side, heading east. Once over the edge of the pass, return to the river and simply follow its north bank up to the small Skålefjellsvatnet lake. From here, the remainder of the route is obvious. There are plenty of markers from the T-marked trail and up to Skålefjellet.
